BEGINNING THERAPY IS AN ACT OF INTENTION.
It is the commencement of a relationship defined by clarity, curiosity, and professional rigor. At Knots, our intake process is designed to move beyond the logistical, ensuring that the space we create is fundamentally the right fit for the depth of work you are seeking.
THE PATHWAY
Step 1: The Initial Inquiry — Begin by submitting a contact form or emailing info@knotscounseling.com. Our administrative process is designed for responsiveness, typically concluding with an email follow-up within 48 business hours. This early touchpoint allows us to understand your core intent—whether seeking individual, couples, or clinical supervision—and your structural needs for format and availability.
Step 2: Complimentary Consultation — We offer a complimentary phone consultation to move past the surface and into the why of your search. This is an essential diagnostic moment: we discuss your current concerns, what you are hoping to cultivate through therapy, and—most importantly—begin to assess the relational fit. It is an opportunity to ask questions, understand our orientation, and determine if our approach aligns with your clinical goals.
Step 3: Scheduling the First Session — If we decide to move forward, we move onto scheduling the intake session. We prioritize seamlessness in this process. Prior to your first session, we provide access to our secure, HIPAA-compliant platform for all consent forms and practice policies. Completing this ahead of time preserves the sanctity of your first hour, allowing us to dedicate that space entirely to you and your story.
Step 4: Clinical Intake and Assessment — The first session is our foundational meeting. It is a dedicated space to map your history, relational patterns, and the larger context of your life—including cultural background, emotional internal structures, and formative dynamics. We approach this not as a data-gathering exercise, but as an initial immersion into the dynamics you are bringing to the room, focusing on how we feel in connection with one another.
Step 5: Beginning the Work Together — Therapy at Knots is not a generic intervention; it is a bespoke, psychodynamic, and integrative course of treatment. When the fit is established, we typically meet on a consistent weekly basis. Our work together is anchored in the belief that insight, when paired with a consistent and thoughtful relational experience, creates meaningful, lasting shifts in self-understanding and emotional regulation. Therapy is a dynamic process, not a static event. We treat the work as an evolving conversation. Throughout our time together, we periodically revisit our focus, clarifying goals and adjusting the orientation of our work as your understanding of yourself—and the complexity of your challenges—deepens over time.
